Christy Martin vs. Mia St. John II
Postponed To August 14

Due to the emotional strain of having to relive the domestic violence victimization of being stabbed twice and then shot by her ex-husband, female boxing icon Christy Martin has asked promoter Roy Englebrecht if her WBC Super Welterweight World Championship fight against Mia St John could be postponed while she recuperates from the stress and trauma of the trial, conviction and sentencing of the ex-husband who tried to kill her. Both Englebrecht and Table Mountain Casino, which was to host the June 19th Final Victory show have understandably agreed to the postponement and have set Tuesday, August 14th as the new date for this championship show.   Steve Forbes: "When One Door Closes,
Sometimes Bigger Doors Open"

By Barbara Pinnella
It has been said that one mans’ misfortune is another's opportunity. That is exactly what happened with Steve Forbes – times two. Back on April 12 Steve had a fight scheduled with Emanuel Augustus, but when Augustus did not pass the physical the fight was scrapped. Disappointed but not discouraged, Forbes kept training. That was the beginning of the snowball.

“I stayed in the gym,” he told me. “I went back to the gym the next day. I was supposed to start sparring a week later. Golden Boy had been seeing me in the gym and I’d done some stuff with Linares and Senchenko in the past. They said they were sorry about my fight being cancelled, and asked if I wanted to go out to Las Vegas and spar with “Canelo”. I said that I would. I was already in shape.”

Promoter Gary Shaw is grieving today with the loss of him mother, Iris Shaw, who passed away this morning in Boca Raton, Florida. She was 90 years old, lived a wonderful life and left behind 2 children, Gary and Cheryl, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

"My mother was a very strong woman who was always there for us. She was a charismatic person who always put a smile on our faces. She was a fight fan, whose first date with my late father 70 years ago, was at a live fight. I know she's in a better place now but I will always remember the fun times we shared as a family. Words can't describe how much I loved her. I will miss her dearly." - Gary Shaw

Bernard Hopkins & Seth Mitchell Look To The
Future After Saturday Night Bouts In Atlantic City

Though they left Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City Saturday night with different results, both future Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins and heavyweight contender Seth Mitchell made statements that their careers are going strong and continuing after delivering compelling performances to a packed house in New Jersey and to homes across the country on HBO World Championship Boxing®.

  Billy's Boxing Blog
Full Of Baloney

By William Trillo

According to wiki.answers.com, When one is "full of baloney (bologna)" it means the information they offer is nonsense, not trustworthy, foolishness. With that definition in mind I want to ad yet another feature to my weekly blog postings.

Many of you are aware of my "Trillo Stink-o-Meter" specials that run whenever something about the business of boxing smells a tad rotten. I also occasionally run my "Go To The Window & Shout, I Am As Mad As Hell" articles that are spurned when enough is clearly enough.

Well boxing fan's, starting today I will also be running a feature I call, "Billy Baloney's Delicatessen". You can look for this feature to rear it's ugly head whenever ridiculous press releases are sent out touting the accomplishments of some fighter who is far from the star the press release would like you to believe. You also may see the "deli" pop up when fighter themselves make some bogus statement about their accomplishments past, present and future.

So without further ado, we shall begin. Click Here For Full Blog

Dawson Earns Majority Decision Over Hopkins
In Another Ugly & Less Than Thrilling Affair

Chad Dawson (now 31-1-2NC, 17 KO's) won the Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight Title over Bernard Hopkins in a rematch that was just as ugly as their first fight. Dawson won on two wide scores simply because he did just enough more than Hopkins to win the majority of rounds. Hopkins was slow to start and did very little throughout the entire fight, though claiming he won the fight and that the scoring was bad. There could be a case for the one card that scored the fight a draw, 114-114, since there were many rounds that were decided on one or two connecting punches, but the fact remains, neither fighter looked superior or dominant over the other. Hopkins made Dawson look bad just as Dawson made Hopkins look bad. Their styles complimented each other in what made another bad fight. There were more clinches than exchanges, mostly by Hopkins. Dawson wanted to fight and Hopkins refused to let him have his way, using many tricks from his arsenal which included his head. Dawson would suffer a cut over both eyes, one in round 4 and another in round 8, from ruled "accidental" headbutts that Dawson claimed to be "intentional". The cuts did not stop Dawson's motivation who won on scored of 117-111 on two of the judges score cards. Hopkins falls to 52-6-2 with 32 KO's. After the fight Dawson called out Super Middleweight Champion Andre Ward.

Seth Mitchell (now 25-0-1, 19 KO's) came back from losing a one-sided first round to batter and stop Chazz Witherspoon in round 3. In round 1, it was clear Witherspoon wanted very little to do in exchanging in the middle of the ring. Witherspoon kept his long jab out while literally running around the ring looking terrified. The problem is that Witherspoon had the height, power and speed to beat Mitchell within that first round, but he lacked stamina, and more importantly, ring smarts. Witherspoon cracked Mitchell with a big right hand that stopped him in his tracks. Witherspoon proceeded to throw more right hands that had Mitchell hurt and staggered. Mitchell held both his hands high, coving the sides of his head from further oncoming right hands and hooks. Witherspoon only needed to throw to the body, which was wide open, or an uppercut to the chin. Witherspoon must have been caught up in the moment because he would only throw more right hands, clearly not seeing how open Mitchell was to the uppercut and to the body. Had one landed, this fight would have been over in the first round, guaranteed. Mitchell managed to survive the round and Witherspoon went back to his corner gasping for air, already.

Credit goes to Mitchell who dug himself out of the whole, coming back in round 2 to punish Witherspoon to the body (the area Witherspoon failed to throw to). In round 3, Witherspoon was barely standing based on his lack of stamina alone. Mitchell went in for the kill and dropped him with a big right hand. Witherspoon would beat the count, but Mitchell was all over him with a barrage of punches against the ropes. referee Randy Neumann jumped in to call a standing eight count, but waived the fight off after seeing Witherspoon's glazed-over eyes. Witherspoon falls to 30-3 with 22 KO's.

Peeks & Valleys Of Malignaggi's Career
Path Lead To Title Opportunity In Ukraine

By Simon Ruvalcaba
With the upcoming trend in boxing we will be seeing in the coming months of aging former champs in big fights against newer and more heavily favored current champions or prospects, perhaps the elements facing Paulie Malignaggi's attempt at a welterweight crown against Vyacheslav Senchenko make his the most difficult task? Instinctively wanting no part of going on the road for the opportunity, Malignaggi quickly reevaluated his options and accepted the challenge. "We thought we where gonna fight Robert Guerrero on the Mayweather-Cotto undercard and when that didn't happen for one reason or another, we went back and took the fight with Senchenko cause it was either that or sit around" commented Malignaggi shortly before departing for training camp in Italy leading up to his fight week arrival in the champions territory.   Sillakh Knocked Out In 8 After
Winning All Previous 7 vs. Grachev

Light Heavyweight Denis Grachev (now 12-0-1, 8 KO's) shocked huge prospect Ismayl Sillakh, coming from behind to win with a dramatic knockout that started with just one punch. Sillakh was in complete control of the fright from the start, even scoring a knockdown with a straight right in round 3. Everything changed when a right from Grachev stopped and staggered Sillakh into the corner during round 8. Grachev jumped on Sillakh, who still had his hands up, with power hooks from both hands. Sillakh began to take clean shots through his guard, one which began to stagger him to the next corner. Another right hand landed flush as Sillakh leaned back which put him down and prompted the referee to immediately jump in and call the fight off at 2:18. Although Sillakh definitely was not in good shape, he should have been given the chance to rise to his feet. Sillakh drops to 17-1 with 14 KO's.

Rowland Bryant Discusses Stopping Librado Andrade

By William Trillo
No one really gave Light Heavyweight Rowland Bryant (now 16-1, 11 KO's) any chance of defeating the tough whiskered Librado Andrade (30-5, 23 KO's) this past weekend in El Paso Texas. No one but Rowland Bryant that is. The little known fighter from Florida put himself on the radar after his KO victory and we wanted to talk with him about his moment.

Pound4Pound:
You came into El Paso ,Texas this past weekend and did the improbable. Congratulations on your victory. Now that you have had a few days to let this sink in how are you feeling?

Rowland Bryant:
I feel great. It’s hard to think I got a fight at that level and it went that way. My coach and I keep talking about it and hopefully we get more.

Hopkins vs. Dawson II Roundtable Quotes
Bernard Hopkins: "I'm a throw back. I live in a time where it is so microwavable that there is no time to cook, season, chop or marinate any more. I'm the last of a dying [expletive] breed.

"They were calling me old when I beat Trinidad 11 years ago.

"Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will always motivate me."

Chad Dawson:
"It all depends on how Bernard comes in the ring. If he comes to fight, that is great. If he comes to lie down like he did last time, then I feel sorry for the people that bought tickets or are going to watch on HBO.

"The first fight wasn't a long fight, but in the two rounds that it was, I was the one trying to press the fight. I was trying to make the action." Click Here For More
