You’d think WBA Super Welterweight Champion in two successful defenses, 10 year pro Miguel “Juanito” Cotto (37-2, 30 KO’s) from Caguas, Puerto Rico, at 31 years of age and in the twilight of his carrier, Successfully stopping Antonio Margarito in a 10th round TKO in front of a Madison Square Garden crowd of 21,239. Hoping that this fight would quiet all the critics who said he was suspect, who said he could not do it, who question his character, who said he had no chin. “Now Lets take on the world”.

The moment of truth has arrived were two of Professional boxing trademark elite fighters clash at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. On May 5th. Heavenly favored Floyd “Money” Mayweather (42-0, 26 KO’s) who did little to uphold his image by his protect yourself at all times (TKO) punch issued to Victor Ortiz back in 9/12 for the 147 WBC Welterweight title. Certainly is in the fight of his life as he jumps up in weight to 154 to challenge Miguel Cotto.

Clearly for those who enjoy indulging in excessive analysis, Examine Mayweather’s record consider his wins over Victor Ortiz (Really), Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya in split decision, Do the results indicate a great fighter or one merely picking on older and lighter opposition?

The fact of the matter is both fighter had it tuff but lets keep in mind the fact that fans have been waiting for a challenge like this for a long time now. Cotto who has all the tools is clearly ready for the Mayweather campaign, Cotto looking for an inspiring victory and a crack at making boxing history by stopping the pound for pound elite Mayweather.

I’ve always admired Miguel Cotto because he respects boxing as a craft and conducts himself as the ultimate professional. This is clearly a Pro’s Pro fight, fight fans following Mayweather’s on going Twitter.com launch attack to call out World Champion Manny Pacquiao, In witch I came to the sincere conclusion and reality as a journalist that in respects to Legend baseball player Pete Rose he has a shot in getting into the Baseball Hall of Fame soon then that fight being made. I tip my hat to Mayweather in a huge way for challenging Cotto.

I predict the action to be pressed and heated up, Mayweather as shown in prior fights relies on his 72” reach to tag Cotto all night with great speed witch will be examined by fighting at that weight in witch we all know he fought De La Hoya at 150 back in 2007.

I don’t see Mayweather attempting to commit to counter exchange with the 67” reach Cotto who I will assure that he will get inside and work with the confidence in his power punching that has been very effective in his last 3 wins. Mayweather an elite athlete will have his hands full fighting Cotto that can Box as well, In a very interesting fights I believe someone will get caught in exchange it is just in a matter of time in such a highly rated match.

Cotto has found a medium that blossomed with Professional Trainer and Cuban native Pedro Luis Diaz Benitez, The move was criticized by the departure of Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Stewerd, However at the time the decision turned out genius. Cotto-Mayweather clearly will not be lopsided, Cotto in reality is still one of the best hard counter punchers and best jabbers in the game, Mayweather’s game plan will quickly turn into a battle plan you would have to be nuts if you think Floyd is not going to get off, He knows for sure that Cotto is going to come right after him in a very intelligent arsenal, Look for Mayweather to use the ring and box cautiously to avoid mixing it up with Cotto.

In a remarkable performance by both fighters I will predict Mayweather catching a very hard shot like never before dropping him late in a highly dramatic fight that will make boxing history as Miguel Cotto will finally capture the boxing world’s eyes after TKO the great American prize fighter Floyd Mayweather, Jr. It is clear that this is my fight of the year prediction.
