Delvin Rodriguez Puts
Plans On Hold For Now
By William Trillo
Welterweight Delvin Rodriguez just took
a big step up and his future is getting brighter, but when
Oscar Diaz collapsed moments after their fight this past
week Delvin's concern was for his fallen foe, "Right now the
most important thing is Oscar's health, nothing else matters
right now," said a humble Rodriguez.
In a conversation with Pound4Pound early
Friday Rodriguez shared his thoughts about the tough night.
"Oscar is a real tough kid, he was taking some of my hardest shots. It was when I landed a tremendous right hand that I thought he was maybe taking too much. Then I saw him collapse and I knew it was very serious, I thought to myself, he must be really damaged."
As we know Oscar Diaz is still in the
hospital in a coma at University Hospital Trauma ICU in San
Antonio. Reports are that Diaz is improving but it may be
weeks before he comes out of his coma.
'Now is not the time to celebrate the
victory," stated Rodriguez, "I am a man of Faith and that is
what is keeping me from going crazy right now. I have not
stopped praying for Oscar."
As to the future Rodriguez knows this
victory was a huge step and good things are sure to come
from it, but according to Delvin, "I am not even thinking
about what is next for my career."
As it should be,the main thing is the
recovery of Oscar Diaz and until then Delvin will look to
his faith and prayers to get him through this tough moment
in his career.
