Is Floyd Trading Promotional Places?

If reports coming out of Manila are true then it appears Bob Arum is currently in negotiations with two major investors that will put his promotional company, Top Rank, in place to promote the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mega-Fight while blocking Golden Boy from promoting the contest at all. Arum not only confirmed that Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz has been in negotiations for the highly anticipated fight but was pleased to say that the same group is also in talks with Mayweather.
This comes as shocking news to many and the power balance in the promotional ranks could very well be trading places if Arum can pull off this major coup, and apparently he is pretty confident he can. “Mayweather is going solo,” said Arum, who also confirmed Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) is not involved in the on-going discussions.
It appears Mayweather could very well be fed up with Golden Boy and is looking to co-promote the proposed battle without them. It’s never been a big secret that Floyd and Oscar do not see eye to eye, to say the least, and with Golden Boy suggesting Mayweather could fight anyone in “their” stable from Erik Morales, to Robert Guerrero to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, let’s go ahead and assume “Pretty Boy” is about as interested in fighting them as the fans are to see them against Floyd…which is not at all.
Let’s be honest, no one gives a horses rear end about seeing Floyd fight anyone but Manny. And after Pacman’s performance against Marquez Team Mayweather may think this is the perfect time to cash in on the Super Fight investment.
If it’s true Mayweather has indeed become a promotional free agent then the talks may have some real substance. According to Arum, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer was left in the dark about the meetings saying, “Mayweather doesn’t want GBP to be involved…”
For the moment this is all some pretty high priced chatter and there is really nothing boxing fans can sink their teeth into yet, but if Arum and Mayweather can pull this off it will be a huge chunk of flesh torn out of Golden Boy’s backside.
As in the movie “Trading Places” this is all a matter of getting rich and getting even. It’s some very funny business but I doubt everyone is laughing.

I think there would be a lot of interest in a match up between Mayweather and Alvarez. The Mexican would have a much better chance of beating Mayweather than Pacquaio.
Wow, that’s some good old fashioned Pac-Hate right there, McGarry. lol. I’m not a fan of Floyd OR Manny, but to act like Alvarez who has fought NOBODY of serious note is a bigger threat against Floyd than Manny (which is what that says when you say that Alavarez would have a better chance of winning) is laughable.
You can think that Manny is going to lose to Floyd, but Manny destroys Alavarez 11 times out of 10.

After Oscar threw his fight with Jr he sighned him up for what is now four promotions all in house GBP, and just like Mosely and Marquez, Jr ran out the contract and is dealing directly with Top Rank is that the scoop. PacMans performance with Marquez had every thing to do with Marquez, Jr is no Marquez and still has no cohones to sighn the deal no sticken excuses needed, my “money” is on the little fella Morales for a career defining farce.

Oscar threw the fight against floyd wow im glad you were able figure that one out. Me and all the people I know just thought he beat Oscar but thanks for clearing that up. Im glad you didnt back that up with any facts Im sure you have some but hey you saying oscar threw the fight is good enough for me. Your hoping floyd fights Morales so you can hate some more because you know he will beat Pac and you wont be able to hate quite as hard as you would like to.
Fact Oscar is well known to throw fights check his farces with Hopkins or Tito. Fact I recall Oscar beating Jr easy just with the jab and then half way he stopped using it. Fact he made more millons promoting in house all his fighters with Jr coincedence ? Fact Hopkins sighns with GBP after his “win” over Oscar sound familiar.
