Lucas Matthysse Lost?

By William Trillo

I was going to wait until Monday morning to spout off about the victory by Devon Alexander on Saturday night but after numerous text messages and phone calls that all said Matthysse was robbed, I figured I would give my quick views.

If my math is correct the judge from Puerto Rico gave Devon 7 rounds (96-93). Is he trying to tell us Matthysse only won three rounds? And that’s with Alexander going down from a clean right hand once.

That’s hogwash.

Even Devon’s hometown crowd in St. Louis booed when the scores were read. It’s pretty clear to anyone that witnessed this fight that Alexander got a pure gift in St. Louis.

It’s really a shame for Matthysse was ripped off again. This is a fighter who brings everything into the ring and on Saturday night he brought way more than Devon. Go look at the punchstats, it wasn’t even close.

We just fired up our Forum this week and I would love to hear what you have to say: http://www.pound4pound.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15

As always I hope you would respond here too, but if you want to get into the mix please check out our new Forum.

Yep, you’re right about the fight Will….garbage it was.

DA was KD, staggered numerous times and still won??? Well what can we expect from
the good old BS artist DK.

I hope other promoters see this as a rise in stock of Matthysse instead of DA.
Matthysse clearly won that fight, should have been a UD in his favor.

The next article I read that says Devon truly won the fight will be the first.

Mathysse at one moment in his career thought that coming to America to fight on HBO would be the “best thing ever”. He must be sorely disappointed and regretting every moment he has touched American soil… With the exception of the paycheck. But how much are these losses actually worth!?! He takes the punishment, gives his own in return, knocks down his opponents, throws and connects more punches and looks more dominating than his foes… only to walk away with “losses”. Now Zab is champ again and will fight Kahn in a unification bout and most likely Alexander will be set up again for a title shot soon, but where does that leave Mathysse? The one who, in the eyes of MANY, beat them both!?! This is what hurts our sport.

Alexander had his head handed to him for the second time.Mathysse was A CLEAR WINNER.It’s a shame to see BAD decisions like this.

Let’s see how much Golden Boy is interested in defending Mathysse. I hope I get to see Carlos Colon, the judge that GAVE Alexander that ridiculous score of 97-93, here in Puerto Rico. I’ll ask him if he’s had his eyes checked…
