“Tiptoe Through The Two Lips”; Ringtv & Yahoo Sports Mum On Golden Boy’s NYSAC Suspension
By William Trillo

It may be the biggest boxing news of 2010, yet at the time of the posting of this blog, (early Monday morning July 12), the suspension of Golden Boy Promotions by The New York State Athletic Department has not been addressed by Ringtv.com or their Associate over at Yahoo.com sports. It could be a coincidence that both news sources ignored the news but the fact that The Ring magazine is currently owned by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Enterprises makes it seem to be otherwise.
Many have questioned whether or not a boxing promotional company could own a boxing magazine and post the news fairly and without partiality.
At the present time that answer has become a resounding NO!
Since the time that Golden Boy has owned the magazine there have been ratings that seemed more than a tad askew to me and even slanted towards their stable of fighters, but hey, rankings are subjective and for the most part I was willing to give everyone over there a pass.
I can’t be so forgiving here.
You can go ahead and decide for yourselves why The Ring or Yahoo Sports has not picked up the story. I have my own idea right now and unless they address this issue head on, I mean they should have ALL the inside sources numbers at their disposal, I will have to go ahead and assume things are exactly as they appear.
The mission statement on Golden Boy’s website reads as follows:
Golden Boy Promotions strives to become the leading Boxing Promotional Company through integrity, honesty, hard work and determination. We want to offer promising young fighters a platform from which they can showcase their talents to a global audience and want to offer our viewers and fans high quality programming.
Golden Boy Promotions is committed to recruiting, developing and retaining the best and brightest young fighters to help achieve our mission.
Golden Boy has the platform to speak on their behalf, they can use the website they own to at least say the allegations are not true and they will prove they are not guilty as charged.
Neither integrity nor honesty are the first things that comes to boxing fans minds when they read about this suspension. Trying to sweep it under the rug or pretend it does not exist surely doesn’t help!
And yes, I know ESPN has not given the story a sniff yet either, and I am not surprised. As I recall The Fatman recently did an article in which he was nose deep in HBO’s Ross Greenburg’s backside. Now that the Fickle Finger of Fate has been pointed in HBO’s direction in this drama, I am sure it is not easy for The Fatman to swallow his pride and admit that maybe Greenburg & HBO do have a flaw or two.
Tiptoe through the window
By the window, that is where I’ll be
Come tiptoe through the tulips with me
By the window, that is where I’ll be
Come tiptoe through the tulips with me
Oh, tiptoe from the garden
By the garden of the willow tree
And tiptoe through the tulips with me
Knee deep in flowers we’ll stray (If allegations are true you will be knee deep in more than flowers)
We’ll keep the showers away
And if I kiss you in the garden, in the moonlight
Will you pardon me? (Not this Time, not if what they are accusing you of is true)
And tiptoe through the tulips with me.

The reason you don’t see the suspension on Yahoo sports is because Yahoo sports gets the majority of its web content from Ring. Today the top three featured stories with photos are all Ring stories. Ring has a content deal with Yahoo. Also, Yahoo sports often posts videos from HBO. You cannot post ANYTHING from HBO without their permission. So that is another reason the GBP suspension didnt make Yahoo. HBO is “partners” with GBP. As for ESPN, well Fat Dan as you calls him only reports scoops favorable to promoters who spoon fed them to him. Ever read his fight reports, especially on the big ones? He has no clue how to watch and analyze a fight. Hack. Suckup. Ass kisser. Choose your poison.
p.s. You want to puke? Read Fightnews white wash of the suspension. The alleged “writers” of the story only spoke to GBP and swallowed their explanation of the suspension as a “snafu.” No quotes were gotten from the NY State Athletic commission, which is a very responsive commission when receiving inquiries from the media.
I read that article and was suprised to see Flat Top put his stamp on that. Is thus supposed to mean that we should believe his article? GBP stinks and so does FightNews, I wish more sites had the sack to write the truth.
Kevin Iole is on vacation, which is why it has not been published for Yahoo!…..maybe…
As far as the Ring, who knows…shady.
NEWSFLASH!!
For the record, on July 12, 2010, 6:05 PM ET ESPN and Dan Rafael finally reported the Golden Boy suspension news.
I am glad to see ESPN step up and report this news, finally.
I find the comments made by respected New York attorney Judd Burstein, who is representing Golden Boy just a little odd though.
“This is not a situation where I will say the commission is acting irrationally by being upset,” Burstein said. “There was no willful intent or false statement made. The guy [David Itskowitch] who usually handles it went on his honeymoon and the guy [Armando Gaytan] who [handled it] didn’t know what the hell he was talking about. It’s a completely honest mistake.”
The guy David Itskowitz?
The guy Armando Gaytan?
The guy?
I realize we are not in court here but is referring to the parties as “the guy” the best legal vernacular you could come up with?
Well, props to the fat guy for posting the story…job well done!
