Is Arum Paving A New Road For Pacquiao? And Other Questions Someone Had To Ask

Am I the only one who scratched his head after reading the comments Bob Arum made in the Los Angeles Times recently? First Bob said that Pacquiao has agreed to submit to random pre-fight blood tests up to 14 days before a fight with Mayweather.

Don’t get too excited yet!

After that the article reveals that Arum speculates by suggesting that Mayweather is still deciding whether or not he wants to fight this year. The sticking point could be the legal situation of Floyd Jr.’s uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather, who faces a coming trial date for allegedly attacking a female boxer last year. Arum said he believes “we’ll have to fish or cut bait by the end of next week.”

After working so hard on getting this Manny vs. Floyd fight done, why would Bob throw this Mayweather legal problem out there? Unless of course the “bait cutting” he is doing at the end of the week has something to do with the outcome of Antonio Margarito looking to get a boxing licence in the state of Nevada.

Could it be that if Margarito gets re-instated that Paq will be facing Tony long before he faces Mayweather?

Boss Ross

The recent comments by HBO’s Ross Greenburg go from the ridiculous to the sublime and all I can ask is why hasn’t anyone taken him to task on it yet? After one of the biggest (take term literally) brown nosed articles written this year there are a few things I would like to know.

Like how did HBO let Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez go to Showtime when he is on the verge of Super Stardom? I mean if he beats Concepcion this weekend on Showtime and goes on to fight and beat Rafael Marquez in September (again on Showtime), Juanma may very well be Puerto Roco’s next Felix Trinidad.

And, as letting Juanma go can prove to be a huge mistake, so is it a mistake to pass on Lucian Bute’s October fight with Jesse Brinkley. Bute and Montreal are a hot commodity right now, heck, HBO has been up there enough times to know that, and now Greenburg says they don’t have the slots! No slots in the fall? Please!!

What Fatso..errr…I mean that ESPN hack didn’t ask and should have is why HBO is showing fewer fights this year than in any year in its past. Could it be budget is the reason? I have my suspicions and that question needed to be asked.

And then all Greenburg talks about are “big” fights. The reason he says is HBO is living off “big” fights appears to be a way of showing Time Warner boxing is thriving.  AHEM.?

Lastly, the entire situation with HBO, the Heavyweights and the Klitschko’s is beyond comprehension and borders on…ummm…well let’s just say that just like the situation in Arizona, Obama would not approve. I know Ross can’t tell the Klitschko’s apart but Wladimir’s fight with Alexander Povetkin is a huge event and HBO should have grabbed that one right away. Heck, Povetkin might even win this fight and then Greenburg would be able to tell one champ from the other.

On second thought….maybe not!
