A Super Six Toast In Honor Of The World’s Best 168 Pound Fighters

By William Trillo

Pound4Pound can not confirm that IBF Super Middle Champ Lucian Bute & WBO Super Middle Champ Robert Stieglitz got together this weekend to congratulate each other for being the best 168 pound fighters in the World, but we can tell you this, if they didn’t they should have.

As we told you yesterday, if Bute was getting points for his fights since the Super Six began his 2 KO’s would give him 6 points and put him in the clear lead. Upon further review it should be noted that if Steiglitz was getting points for his fights in that same time frame, his KO victory in one battle and his unanimous decision in the other would give him 5 points and he would be sitting all by himself in second place. Ward, Dirrell and the rest of that motley crew would be picking up the end trails.

If by chance Bute & Steiglitz did get together to toast their accomplishments it would be interesting to find out if they saluted each other with a fine Canadian Lager or a hearty German Bock.

One thing we can be sure of is that they would not have been drinking any of that swill produced by microbreweries in either Oakland or Detroit.

This has got to be the dumbest thing I’ve read in weeks.

If Bute and Steiglitz were in the Super Six they wouldn’t have faced Miranda, Andrade, Gutknecht and Acosta respectively.

How many points would the other Super Six fighters have facing the likes of those fighters?

    Come on man, think!

  2. beblack99 says:

You must be drinking some of that same stuff they are if you think those two are the best 168 and get points man and I thought you knew something about boxing, those two are bums and you know it, who have they fought? and when will they fight a really good fighter? come will the thrill or who ever you are stop sucking up. Lucien is a bum and you know it.

    Conner,

You do realize that this blog was a bit “Tongue In Cheek”….right?

With that said, Bute did face the # 1 mandatory in Andrade and was put on the deck for the only time in his career. Miranda beat a current Super Six contestant in Allan Green.

Steiglitz wrestled his title from a then undefeated Karoly Balzsay and won his next bout by KO and followed that up by beating another undefeated fighter…not a bad days work.

You took the article a bit too seriously my friend.

You do realize the photo is not real…right?

    C’mon man…..THINK!

Hey dude…I thought you were never going to read our site again?

    Lucian is a bum?

That must be why HBO snagged him from Showtime and make that trek up to Montreal everytime he fights, because like me, they do not know what they are talking about.

    P.S. For the record, I don’t drink!

  5. Threat says:

Hey Connor, you make a valid point about the opponents Bute & Steglitz fought who may or may not be “Super Six” worthy, also mentioning that the Super Six fighters would fare the same had they faced those same opponents. Well you’re WRONG buddy.

Ward DID fight Miranda, and got a broing 12 round decison win over him. Chalk up 2 points for Ward on that win, but Bute Knocked him OUT, with ease at that, looks like Bute would get 3 pts there and YOUR point becomes moot.

And as Will also mentioned, Miranda beat Green, yet Green is in the tourney, and also the weakest link of the bunch.

And disagree all you want, but I know for a fact Andrade would have at least TRIED against Ward, unlike Green’s clinching for 12 rounds. Win or not.

  6. Mary Ornelas says:

Ok well since we are handing out lables for who the best is @ 168 these guys have to remember to be the best fight the best and stop making excuses or little cop outs. I know Ornelas is still waiting for Steglitz or Bute who ever.So we need to stop patting these champions on the back and remind them to step up and really be a champion, talk is cheap

  7. Jimbo says:

Hey dummy, you do realize that after Miranda beat Green that he got KO’d by Abraham (who is in the tourney) and had his ass handed to him by Ward. Steiglitz has done nothing to prove that he was on the level of these fighters, and your boy Bute was basically KOd by Andrade before the tourney. If not for the fight against Andrade I’m sure Bute would have been invited to the tourney. And EVERY time a fight is promoted they make it out to be the best thing since sliced bread. That’s how promoters make money you dummy!

  8. William says:

    Jimbo,

You have made my day today with your responses, I am thrilled I got so deeply under your skin. The reason it hurts you so much is you know that through the “Tongue In Cheek” humor there is a a whole lotta of truth.

Time you do YOUR homework and find out the real reason why Bute was not put in the tournament.

And please Jimbo, tell us all more about how promoters make money. Are you saying they are nothing more than carnival barkers that are selling snake oil to the masses? Wow, I wonder why no one but you has ever figured that out.

    Sincerely, Dummy
