Brilliant!!!!!!!
It is not brilliant. Teenagers grow far faster than grown men. College basketball players routinely are 6’4 in high school and then their freshman year grow five or six inches. In a space of 18 months starting in 2008, at age 30 Pacquiao went from a 130 pounder to a 147 pounder, four fights. The last time Floyd fought at 130 was in November of 2001. He fought at lightweight for two years covering four fights. The next year he fought three times at 140. His first fight at 147 was in November of 2005. Do the math. It took Floyd four years to go from 130 to 147, which is natural for him, and keep in mind Floyd is 5’8, while Pacquiao is 5’6 1/2.
So at a time when they were both grown men, Floyd added weight gradually. Pacquiao exploded from 130 to 147 in 18 months. Teenagers often start of skinny and when they get into sports add muscles and pounds. That’s natural. It IS NOT NATURAL TO ADD 17 POUNDS ON A SMALL FRAME LIKE PACQUIAO’S IN 18 MONTHS. IT IS FREAKISH. READ INTO THAT WHAT YOU WANT.
Bernard Hopkins went from 160 to 175, but Bernard was always a 175 pounder who just stayed in such great shape year round that he could make weight at 160. Jermain Taylor’s Olympic coach Tom Mustin told me Jermain was a light heavyweight in his frame but was able to make middleweight so he fought there.
Billy’s “case” is vastly misleading, and demonstrates that he did not do any further research as I did, he rushed it out there, like a lawyer stating only what makes his case, and not addressing the stuff that debunks their case.
Teenager vs. grown man. Natural vs. unnatural. Chew on that brilliance Mr. M-Dubb.
I didn’t post those weights as some scietific theory about how fighters grow and the last thing I need is your convoluted theory about college basketball players and their weight gain or how many inches they grow from High School to College. Good Grief!
This is about the complaints of the Mayweather camp and their ridiculous concerns, NOTHING MORE.
The Mayweather family, mainly Floyd Mayweather Sr. insisted that Pacquiao was on something, that no man coming from 106 pounds could come up look ripped and muscular, get stronger and faster as they go up in weight and take the punches of a bigger man the way Pacquiao did against Miguel Cotto.
My point is Floyd Jr. was 106 pounds at 16 EXACTLY like Manny.
Mayweather Jr. then moved all the way up to 154 pounds and looked ripped and muscular while he went toe to toe with the 150 pound Oscar De La Hoya and took some pretty heavy shots before he beat “The Golden Boy” via split decision.
NO ONE EVER SECOND GUESSED THAT WEIGHT GAIN
BECAUSE IT IS NOT OUT OF THE ORDINARY!
Trying to say there is something fishy about a 106 pound 16 year old turning into a muscular 147 pound 30 year old man is just moronic.
The Mayweather stance has never been about weight gain over a small time frame as you suggest Boffer. If it was I guess we could point to the “freakish” weight loss and gain of Paul Williams. Or maybe you can review Henry Armstrong who not only won a Featherweight title but also fought for a version of the Middelweight title.
The Mayweather question is how did a guy who fought at 106 pounds grow into a dominant force at 147 pounds.
The answer is he did it just like Floyd Jr. did….he matured from a teen to an adult, just like we all do!
Chew on that Boffer. But don’t chew alone, you will need someone there to perform the Heimlich when that Natural vs. Unnatural “brilliance” gets lodged in your esophagus.
My poor Billy. You just don’t read anything carefully. You missed my biggest point. Pacquiao jumped from 130 to 147 in 18 months. Mayweather took 4 years. That is the reason people question Pacquiao.
And if you knew anything about Armstrong, mister know it all, you’d know he didnt put on much weight to fight at welterweight or middleweig ht. The first time he fought and won the title at welterweight he only weighed 134 pounds, compared to Bobby Pacho’s 147. The first time he defended his welterweight title he weighed 135. The next five times he defended his welterweight title he weighed: 138 1/2, 136 3/4, 139 3.4, 142, 139 1/2 and 140 1/2. FIVE YEARS after he first won the welterweight title he finally got up to 144 and then 146. FIVE YEARS, not 18 MONTHS my friend. WHEN HE FOUGHT FOR THE MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE HE WEIGHED ALL OF 142 POUNDS, MY FRIEND. CHEW ON THAT MY BOXING EXPERT FRIEND.
As for Paul Williams, he started his career as a welterweight, and the three times he fought at Middleweight he only weighed 157, and that was after eating breakfast before the weigh in — ask his trainer. Paul Williams is also huge, and a freak at welterweight. He has a middleweight’s body. Man, you dont know your facts.
I rest my case. If you care to respond, respond please to the facts I presented above. I am a big fan of yours, but this is one time I think your brilliance failed you.
Yes Boff, we all see how you pointed out the weight gain over a small period of time and likewise we all bow to your (ass) holiness.
That is not now or has ever been the lame contention of the Mayweathers.
You do understand that…right?
Their concern is how he went from a 106 pound teen to a 147 pound killing machine.
My point is their boy did the same thing. NOT UNUSUAL!
We are all very impressed with your weight gaining knowledge. I will store that in my computer under the folder name: USELESS INFORMATION
I pointed out Armstrong because like Manny and Floyd he fought at weights from 120-150 pounds as a pro. Thanks for copying and pasting Hammerin’ Hanks Boxrec stats in some haphazard way to show us you are some great boxing historian.
Paul is a freak…agreed. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that he can weigh in at 145 for one fight and beat middleweights in the next fight. Most men can’t.
Manny is a freak, Floyd is a freak.
These guys do what most normal men can’t.
THAT IS THE POINT BOFF.
Well I see the Boffoon is at it again. Hey Boff do you understand the Mayweather premise or do you just spew out your own thoughts hoping someone thinks you are either educated or bright. Simply put that dysfunctional family contends no one grows from fighting at 106 pounds to a welterweight Champion without cheating. No Floyd, it happens all the time, you are an example of that, dunce. And hey Boff, since you are so proficient at copying and pasting maybe you can post all the bums Floyd fought on his way to the top as oppossed to all the Champions Manny defeated along the way.
I said brilliant because it was a good point! Without getting into all the BS. All that is going on is that Manny is now fighting at around his walk around weight. Bottom line end of story. Each person is different. I boxed in the Navy. I walked around at 160 to 165 but I boxed at on 150, weight classes are different in the service. My trainer had me fight at 150 because I was 5’8″ with a 68″ reach. There were two main factors as to why my coach had me at 150. While training twice a day my weight would be around 152 to 157 and second alot of 5’11” to 6’1″ guys could make the 158 and 162 weights. I felt at my fastest and strongest and best at 157. Some guys can fight their best at their walk around weight (Pacquiao) and others can fight well around 20 pounds under their walk around weight (Clottey & Trinidad). Their is no exact science but a 5’6” 5’7″ man performing well at around 147 sounds pretty normal to me. Alot of guys Manny’s height weigh a lot more and performed well at their sports. Nate Robinson and Earl Boykins and Barry Sanders. These guys are well above 147. Manny use to have to cut about 12 to 15 pounds to make weight now he only needs to cut 0 to 5 pounds. So the question here is can a guy perform well at his walk around weight against guys who starve themselves to make weight? I say yes!!!
how much did Manny weigh during the HGH years ?
That’s a very good question Luis. I got one for you, how much did yo mama weigh during her doing every guy in the neighborhood years?
OK Miller…Yo Mama jokes are a bit over the top, one of our readers wrote to me personally about it so I want to let you know that not everyone thinks that is funny.
Enough of the figures, it’s just that Pacman is one helluva fighter with a lion heart who was never afraid to fight the bullies, the best brawlers, the best sluggers, the best tacticians, the bigger guys, who most people thought would obliterate him and bring him to kingdom come, but always the opposite happened. It’s simply because he is one helluva fighter. And no one can say that pinky gayweather, err, who’s that sleeper of a boxer, float meywether, whatever, can compare with Pacman, because he aint fought the best of them. Gayweather is a misnomer of a boxer, he has no balls. He’s too afraid to fight the Pacman, because he knows, the little man, will knock him out, & knock him out so terribly, perhaps, like the rest, he would have a rude awakening. Don’t be a chicken.
