Mayweather & Golden Boy Back Off The Non-Negotiable Ploy! What Is Really At The Heart Of Floyd’s Problem?

On December 23rd Leonard Ellerbe, Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s Head Flunky, said: “We’ve insisted on this, (Olympic style drug testing), from the beginning. We just want to make sure there is a level playing field. There’s no compromise on this issue.”
Guess what Leonard?
We have a compromise in the works and according to Golden Boy Chief Richard Schaefer they have agreed to drop the Olympic style drug testing and go with urine and blood testing as conducted by The Nevada State Athletic Commission.
”We are OK to move off USADA,” Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who is representing Mayweather, told ESPN.com. “What we’re saying, and what is important to us, is four things — that the tests be random, that they include blood and urine and the time frame, meaning when do you stop the tests before the fight but know they will still be effective. Three of them we have agreed on — random, blood and urine. So now it is a matter of the two sides working out the specifics of the cutoff date to assure it will still be effective.”
The cutoff date will be the last sticking point according to Schaefer who said, “(Top Ranks) Todd and Bruce are trying to work out the specifics of the cutoff to assure the tests are still effective because we know that 30 days before is not effective,” Schaefer said. “At 30 days, we might as well not even do it. We want to figure it out [the cutoff window], (and now here comes the funny part), and I will give my recommendation to Team Mayweather, and they will be on board.
I believe Schaefer when he says he will comply with whatever cutoff date that the Nevada Commission recommends and the promoters Top Rank and Golden Boy agree on but if I am supposed to believe that Team Mayweather is going to be on board just because Schaefer tells them to…well….that is a very bitter and jagged pill to try to swallow!
Since when has Floyd ever agreed to anything without first throwing a pre-pubescent hissy fit? I will tell you when….NEVER! And since when after Floyd throws his little tantrum has his # 1 gopher Ellerbe not run to whoever will listen to tell them Floyd is turning blue and rolling around on the ground and says he will hold his breath until he gets his way….again….NEVER.
Here is what I believe to be the real problem with this entire scenario:
Floyd is afraid of this fight and always has been, he doesn’t want to risk his unbeaten record and he never intended for the Pacquiao fight to happen. To misdirect the masses Floyd seized on the issue de jour, performance enhancing drugs, and he used it as a way of getting out of the fight. Or so he thought. All was looking good for Floyd but now cooler heads are prevailing and it looks like we could have an agreement in principle before the year is over. That’s bad news for Team Mayweather.
If Mayweather really considers himself the greatest of all time, should he fear fighting a small guy on performance enhancer’s? The answer is, he is pathologically afraid of losing.
Take a look at the list of guys he has fought after Castillo and try to tell me you are impressed:
Victoriano Sosa (who?), Phillip N’dou, Demarcus Corely &Henry Brusseles (AKA The 3 Stooges), Arturo Gatti (old), Sharmba Mitchell (faded), Zab Judah (stamina issues),Carlos Baldomir (Didn’t Floyd retire after this fight?), Oscar De La Hoya (shell of former self), Ricky Hatton (forced to move up a little), Juan Manuel Marquez (forced to move up a lot).
No Cotto. No Margarito. No Mosley. No Paul Williams. Not even Joshua Clottey.
Now here’s a question for you: Would Paul Williams fear a junior welterweight on performance enhancer’s? The answer is NO.No great fighter would care if a much smaller fighter was on rocket fuel. You simply cannot be beaten by drugs if the guy is much smaller.
Floyd’s fear is losing, it has nothing to do with performance enhancer’s. He sees Pacquiao as a legit threat and he has not faced a serious threat since Castillo, other than maybe Oscar, whom Floyd felt was over the hill.
From what I can tell Floyd is deathly afraid of Manny after seeing what he did to Oscar, Hatton and most importantly Cotto, a fighter Floyd has ALWAYS been afraid to face.
Despite the enormous amount of money, Floyd cannot risk his 0. If he loses, he will lose all his perceived credibility. The claim he is unbeatable and the best of all time is worth…well apparently it’s worth upwards of 40 million dollars to Floyd.
My theory is Floyd’s fear of Pacquiao is the root cause of this whole mess. Fear of the loss of his zero haunts Mayweather nightly. Floyd’s insecurity as to his place in the manly art of self defense has caused him to overcompensate by endless over the top bragging and self promotion.
Insecurity is at the root of this and Floyd cannot risk a loss because of it.
Every great fighter has lost! Ali lost. Louis lost. Oscar lost. The list is enormous.
But despite facing a minimum of $40 million and for a guy who is said to have major “Money” problems, Floyd is willing to skirt this fight and his insecurity could very well be at the heart of the matter.

You nailed it on the head. What sane boxer would turn down $40 million? And if he loses but goes the distance and the fight is close on the scorecards, guess what? Pacquiao-Mayweather II. That fight would be HUGE, and Floyd would make far more than $40 million. Floyd knows this. So as you say, there is only one answer as to why this fight has stalled: Floyd’s insecurity. His fragile self esteem is wrapped up in the 0. Lost that, he won’t know who he isl. Only insecure people brag about themselves the way Floyd does. Only insecure people throw $100 bills around the floor of a night club. Better he should go to the ghetto and disperse the cash. Personally, I’d rather watch Pacquiao and Malignaggi, which promises lots of agressive action, something you never see from Floyd, who has a phobia about being hit (touched?)
great blog, floyd stop being a bitch and fight pac man
this shit i bull there know way anyone would compete with some one on drugs ass
Whoa, hey Anonymous, is that even a sentence?
steroid boy just ducked Mayweather
hey, Anonymous, guess who’s on drugs?
floyd GAYweather jr. s a fuckin’ coward! dats all i can say…
You guys are all fuckin fags! Deep down you know Money May’s the best fighter of all time. He doesn’t need Duckquiao. Quackquiao needs Floyd. You idiots just like to keep the brothas down. Racist pricks!
Bullshit OJ
Floyd is the man and will beat Pac man and everyone will say he beat a smaller fighter again.
when he beat Delahoya he was old but when pac beat him he was the man. If anyone ever question an huge sports figure like pac man about drugs the first reaction should be he wants to prove himself not make excues why he cant take the test. (don’t like needles but has tatoos, thinks I blood test will make him weak but not the other fighter taking the same test?) Floyd will outclass him and the first question will be “why havent you fought Mosely yet or some other fighter. He is so hated on that when he is gone people will finally realize what a boxing legend he is!!!
Better to retire floyd and stop talking nonsense….your afraid to pacman…period.
palos are you serious if he takes the test floyd will have no (excues) take the test and clear your name and if you win your on top of the world. If you don’t take the test your hiding something PERIOD.
Claiming racism when it doesn’t exist is foul.
who in there right mind would turn down 40 million dollars over a drug test unless there is something to hide. Anybody.
who in there right mind would turn down 40 million dollars by demanding a drug test outside of the normal tests that are good for every other fighter on the planet? Anybody.
Pacman will turn down 40 million Taylor….Let’s see who’s really the loser here…He don’t need Floyd anyway…Ask Bob Arum.
First of all because Arum say pacman dont need mayweather dont mean its true. They have 3 common fighters they have fought Delahayo, hatton, and Marquez check the #’s floyd did way better #’s is all those fights then Pac man did. Pac will go fight Paulie and make 4 maybe 5 million and floyd could fight Mosely for 10 to 12 million at least. pac man made less then 2 million both times he fought Marques mayweather made 10 million. Who needs who?
OJ, what the hell are you talking about? “Duckquiao”? The names Morales, Barrera, Marquez & Cotto are way better than Bruseles, Mitchell, Ndou and Baldomir. Talkin about “ducking”, and he fought those mexican warriors all more than once.
Mayweather is like a Sugar Ray Leonard who never fought Hearns, Duran and Hagler. What good would that Leonard be? Mayweather doesn’t have Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Pacquiao, Williams, Martinez, or anyone good on his record. After Corrales & Castillo, Floyd has been useless. His fight with Marquez can not be compared.
how can his fight with Marquez not be compared just because he out classed him and Pac man really lost twice. Of course Pac man fans like to compare the Delahoya and hatton fights but not the marquez. When floyd fought delahoya it was at 154 with delahoya picking the ring size and gloves. When hatton fought mayweather and he was undefeated and if you really watch the fight got his ass kicked for ten rounds before he got knock out. as for marquez everyone complained about his size for the fight but floyd was just to fast for even the smaller man. Pac man should take the test and if he beats floyd I and all the other floyd fans will have nothing to say at all.
it’s uncomparable because Marquez had never fought that high before. Not even a tuneup at that weight. Marquez had just moved up 2 weight classes prior to that, and struggled early against Diaz. Then moved up TWO MORE. Thats a FOUR WEIGHT CLASS JUMP in like 3 fights buddy. That cannot be compared to Pac’s fights with him where that was his natural weight, give up your cheap argument.
Floyd even made Hatton go up, but Pac fought him at his own undefeated weight and absolutely destroyed him. Floyd had Cotto, Margarito and Hatton to choose from and he chose the weakest link. Pac’s at least fought two of those 3, and if Margarito hadnt been suspended, he’d still be in the picture and would make a fight with Pac any day.
And who cares about either Oscar fight, both are non existant and mean NOTHING. Floyds or Pacs, but the fact is, Oscar at least won some rounds against Floyd and was ahead midway through. Against Pac he won non and was STOPPED. But the Oscar they fought wasnt an Oscar of importance, so they cancel each other out.
floyd is wise.. but the way he is doing right now, he’s a one hell of a coward.. it’s true that he doesnt want to risk his 0 in the ring with pacman. he is really a boring boxer.. he wants to fight if he knows that he can beat that guy.. but if pacman? i dont think he will do that even in a $4oM deal.. He is a great boxer bt a great great loser and a great great great coward! and ultimately great great great great ass talker!!!!
WTF I agree with some of the things you say but manny only fought one fight at 135 before he moved up to to fight oscar at 147. Also if if your saying floyd has some many fighter to chose from and he choses the easiest fight. Manny is going to fight no risk Paulie if he don’t fight floyd after he fought like you said an old oscar and a shot no defense fighter as it was shown in the mayweather and pac man fight Hatton now he goes on to fight Paulie with at lot of great fights out there at 147 or 140. The biggest no risk of all is fighting a guy with no power and no chance like Paulie. Who has already lose badly to 2 people Pac man beat badly.
I’m a floyd fan but if this fight don’t happen they both suck and its bad for the sport of boxing.
jeff taylor if you really a fighter you can face anything by your hand not by your mouth. that’s is why we call it boxing. What is the scientific difference of taking drug examination before and after the fight.Did you ever run your car with luck of fuel, break fluid or gasoline on thier line.what do you thimk what happen.Did you ever be fight or play boxing on your real life.If you do you cannot ask me why? If not big question for you…
boxing is good fighter always be a fighter. If you hit you box what ever drugs on your on your blood line….
