My Joe Goossen’s Ten Goose Gym Snapshot

Although Joe Goossen’s Gym in Van Nuys isn’t exactly in my neck of the woods, I must say I had a grand ol’ time last week at Chris Arreolas open workout. Yes of course Chris was why we were all there and for the most part all the cameras were pointing in his direction…and rightly so.

I wont belabor the day as I am sure most of you have read all the stories about how Chris looked better than anyone expected. As I said in my earlier report he did look like he dropped a good number of pounds and had moments of looking pretty darn sharp.

Now…Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe I am the only one to mention his unexpected trips to the back room after rounds on the heavy bag. 3 minutes on, 3 minutes off. The second time he went back a well known Southern Cali journalist wondered aloud, “What the hell is he doing?”  No one had an answer.

Having been the one who shot the photo on August 1st in Rancho Mirage I felt it was only fair to take another shot from a similar angle to show how good Arreola is looking. As everyone said, it’s a big difference. And please, if you have any comments on the look of this picture, (which you should), I want to say right now:

JUST LIKE THE AUGUST PHOTO,THIS PICTURE HAS NOT BEEN PHOTOSHOPPED!

Also on hand was Edison Miranda who has an October 20 fight date. Miranda who is now under the Joe Goossen tutelage was working pretty hard. According to his team, a win in October will put him in position to challenge the winner of Bute vs Andrade 2. I think that’s a pretty tall order for Miranda but his team insists Goossen has brought out the best in him. One thing for sure, we know Miranda has the fire, so maybe a little fine tuning by Goossen will do the trick….maybe.

Goossen hot prospects John Molina and Shawn Estrada were on hand making ready to be on the undercard of their stablemate Arreola’s card in September.

Both these fighters are undefeated and a good showing on this card could easily launch Molina into a regional title bout and another KO victory by Estrada will put another notch in the young fighters ledger.

Another Goossen heavyweight, Manuel Quezada was on hand but he was just an interested onlooker on this day. You might remember Quezada, he recently demolished Travis Walker in 1 round. The same Walker who put Arreola down with one straight right hand before getting KO’d's himself in round 3.

And of course, the obligatory Bulldog was in da house.

As the Playtex commercial says, “I can’t believe it’s a girdle!”

i cant believe he got down so quick Bill. We were all in awe of his hugeness at Agua Caliente.

    I’ll hope for the best

David!!! Thanks for chiming in. As you were sitting next to me that night you are the only one who can come to my defense. Team Goossen, as you may or may not know is convinced the photo I took that night was Photoshopped.

If you can remeber that far back…when I snapped that shot and showed it to on my cameras screen seconds later what did you say to me? What was your reaction?

And yes, I like you hope the best for both Chris and Vitali, let’s not forget that. But as I have made perfectly clear…I CAN NOT & WILL NOT condone any fighter who allows himself to let themselves go physically, I don’t care who he is or where he is from. And if by chance the fighter has great talent but let’s it slip away due to poor habits…well….enuff said

I saw you take the picture and then we sat there in amazement,so it definitely was not photoshopped.

I will say this, the Division needs a guy like Arreola to spice things up abit. To be quite honest, the Klitschkos bore the hell out me.

Im hoping Chris is in shape and wins. With Haye and Arreola on the scene, at the very least, the heavyweight Division will be more fun to watch than it has been.
