Absurd Email Calls Pacquiao “An Average Fighter”
By Bret “The Threat” Newton
We wouldn’t normally subject our readers to a low level I.Q. email such as the one we’re about to show you, but we felt it was at least good enough for a laugh, even though we did decide to respond to it. Feel free to send your own responses to us regarding the following email we received after the Pacquiao vs. De La Hoya fight:
From: BEBLACK99
Ok, I’m going to give you the heads up on The Pacman also, Why is everyone calling this great fighter like they did Cotto, tell me Who other then Great fighers that were so close to retiring the rocking chair was in the ring with them. Manny is Average nothing more the same thing i told you about Cotto. Now here’s the thing he’ is being guilded pass all the really good fighters. and Don’t even mention Mayweather he would knock Pacman out cold, why? Pacman has no defense and the only speed he has is because his opponents had none. would Ricky Hatton be a good fight? I would take a guess that Hatton would Knock him out. Boxing is really in desperate need of a star any star even if that star is fighting dull fighters and not the competion. boxing has come to the point where they will by pass look over and make any excuse to draw a crown even if it’s a really washed up Oscar, wow. You would be considered a very wise man if you would step out of the box and go on some bold statements that unless Pacman can beat someone we would consider a true contender then he’s not great or good he’s just an average fighter.
Beblack99,
I don’t even know where to begin. You’re email is about one of the most ridiculous we’ve ever received, and we’ve had some doosies. So let me try and dissect this one the best way possible.
First, you ask “why is everyone calling Pacquiao great like they did Cotto”. So you’re saying Cotto is not that good? Despite having only one lone loss to Margarito, who De La Hoya ducked in order to entice Pacquiao to fight him? I guess wins over FIVE undefeated fighters means nothing? How many unbeaten fighters did Mayweather Jr. face? TWO! And for one of those Floyd picked the easiest of the bunch that were around to fight, who was Hatton. You’re telling me Hatton was ranked higher than Cotto at the time Mayweather chose to fight Ricky? Even above Margarito? Get out of here. Hatton was nearly TKO’d by way past his best Juan Lazcano before he used the “I need to tie my shoe” routine. Don’t even bring up Paul Williams, Mayweather would rather fight Hulk Hogan in a scripted match.
Next, you ask “who other than great fighters that were close to retiring did both Pacquiao and Cotto fight”. Well, lets start with Cotto. Was Kelson Pinto close to retiring when they fought? Pinto beat Cotto in the amateurs and was undefeated when they fought, only to get knocked out. Mohamed Abdulaev was 15-1, hardly close to “rocking chair” retirement. Ricardo Torres, who was 28-0, and went on to win the WBO title, then onto 2 exciting fights with Holt, with a 3rd on the way hopefully next year. Malignaggi was 21-0. Cotto busted him up good, and more-so than Hatton recently did despite the stoppage. Cotto broke Malignaggi’s jaw, and he’s not in the “retirement” status, sorry. What about Judah? Many picked Judah to beat Cotto, and what happened there? Same thing with Mosley. Mosley is still fighting and getting big wins, he’s not getting handily beaten like Oscar was against Pacquiao last Saturday. Then there was Margarito. Cotto took all he could from that monster until he could take no more. At 32-1, with 26 KO’s, you’re already writing Cotto off after one loss? A loss to the number one guy in the division who Floyd ducked and retired so he couldn’t face him? Man, you really aren’t a boxing expert are you?
Now lets go over Pacquiao’s resume. Let’s start with BARRERA for christ sake! Marco was at the peak of his career when along came Pacquiao and absolutely DESTROYED what many never thought would be possible. Barrera isn’t in a rocking chair, and went on to win 6 more times before losing to Marquez and a rematch with Pacquiao. You’re saying Barrera is a bum? Wow, I’d hate to see the hate mail you’d get for that one. Moving on, you have Juan Manuel Marquez. Yes it was a Draw, yes many had Marquez winning, but the fact is, it was a GREAT fight, very competitive and candidate for fight of the year. Pacquiao dropped him three times in the opening round. How is that credit not due? Marquez is recently coming off a huge win over Casamayor and ready for more, he’s hardly in retirement status, sorry that you were mistaken. Next was Erik Morales. Morales beat Pacquiao the first time. Morales was one of the best fighters of this generation and you say he was a rocking chair retiring fighter when they fought all three times? WRONG! Pacquiao came right back and beat Morales twice in 2 more great fights, and lets not forget, Morales then went on the fight David Diaz only to get robbed of becoming the first Mexican to win 4 title in different weight classes, so that’s FAR from an old man sitting in a rocking chair. Finally you have De La Hoya. Yes, maybe he should have retired, but are you forgetting that it was OSCAR who wanted the fight, not Manny? Goldenboy had to make a second offer to Pacquiao after the first was refused. Oscar “hand picked” Manny, and it backfired in his face.
You just sound upset because nearly 90% of all writers and so called experts picked Oscar simply based on the size difference. If you knew so badly that Pacquiao was going to win, why aren’t you a millionaire today having bet on Pacquiao to win, huh? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Don’t even mention Mayweather? Why would we, he RETIRED! Duh! He left without fighting Cotto, Margarito and Pacquiao. He’s the one you should be criticizing for fighting sub par opponents. He even left before truly finishing against the best. He too fought Oscar you know, and in fact, did not do as well as Pacquiao did. Pacquiao won all 8 rounds and stopped him. Floyd was losing after the 7th before Oscar tired and allowed him to win the next 5 in a row to take it.
Boxing is in desperate need of a star? Pacquiao has BEEN a star from the get go. Name one fight of his that was boring. Just one. Manny is probably the most exciting fighter other than Arturo Gatti, and he doesn’t take a beating in every fight to come back and win, he just gives them. All Pacquiao’s fights end up being candidates for fight of the year. I’d rather watch him than a guy who just runs and outboxes another fighter for 12 boring rounds. That’s what makes you a “star” my friend. Bringing in the fans. Actually fighting and trading is what sells tickets, not a prancing around the ring contest. Pacquiao not only brings in the massive Filipino fans, but all the Mexican’s as well who are the largest community that support boxing.
How can you not like Manny? That baffles me. He’s one of the nicest and funniest guys out there who puts on great fights that everyone wants to watch over and over. There is never a Pacquiao fight that someone goes “well, Im never watching that fight again”, yet that has been said for MANY Mayweather fights, let me tell you. Im a big fan of Morales and Marquez and Pacquiao beat both. Do I hate him for doing so? Of course not. All those fights were great, the helped boxing and Pacquiao gave and still gives respect to them and all Mexican’s after fighting them. Maybe if you actually met him you’d change your tune. It’s like you’d be happy if Pacquiao lost. Why? That’s a bit childish and immature my friend, but there’s always some moron that wants to see the top guy fall. Just so happens that you’re that person this time.
Anyway, let me end on this. You said Mayweather would beat him, well lets see it. Manny’s fought everyone, whether you say so or not. Floyd decided not to fight again because he never wanted to get in the ring with someone who could really bring it to him. He got out before that could happen because he’d lose. Just watch his fight against Augustus and the first with Castillo (which was a robbery by the way). Why else go into WWF fake stuff and then retire? We may never see that fight and who’s fault will that be? Floyd’s. Why beat up Manny over this? He’s the one calling him out. He wanted him instead of Oscar. But does Floyd really want Pacquiao? Of course not. That’s why Floyd said he wanted to rematch Oscar. Now how in the hell is that not mentioned in your silly ass email? Beat a guy rather easy that’s ready to retire, then call him out for a rematch? That’s a laugh. Yet you’re upset Pacquiao fought him, but it’s ok that Floyd said he’d come out of retirement to fight Oscar if he’d win? Sorry bud, but YOU FAIL!
PS, Pacquiao would knock Floyd’s head so far off that you’d come up with another stupid email of excuses, probably that the length of time Floyd had of was what caused the outcome, so just do us all a favor and pick another sport to harass because you obviously know very little about boxing. No one will take your email seriously anyway, but it’s worth a laugh.
Thanks,

Bret for president!
Beblack 99 is Juan Manuel Marquez in disguise. What a pathetic moron!
way to go bret! give it to him!
that’s just how great manny is, after his fights, he will make you think that all of his elite enemies are washed up fighters.
WTG Bret! Thats a great response backed up with all the facts
Beblack 99 is just a big ODLH nut hugger who absolutely knows nothing about boxing
Beblack 99 HE ATE HIS WORD 9 TIMES ALREADY XD AND I THINK HES TIRED HAHAHA…== another mexican? loser?
i agree with him though, i remember Pacman saying something like that. ” Im just an average fighter that beats up great fighters”. lol

To BeBlack99: My suggestion would be to look at Manny’s past opponents the list is very impressive and how can you talk about Cotto in a negative way. He but on a beautiful display of boxing against Margarito. That was a true boxing clinic that he displayed unfortunately he was up against a beast. Margarito is right now the best welter in the division. The only person who can maybe MAYBE beat him is Williams.
To Bret:
I agreed with most of the stuff you said. Both Cotto and Manny are good fighters. Actually, I would say Cotto is a better fighter than Manny because he has more of an arsenal than Manny. For example, lateral movement, different combinations, excellent body work and more of a defensive fighter than Manny. All around Cotto is a better boxer. Their resumes of opponents is very impressive. Pacman is not a great fighter but he is definitely not an average fighter. I still feel that he is one dimensional but that does not mean average. He just fights forward with exception of this past fight. Manny is a hard fighter to dominate in the ring but most southpaws are difficult and he is a very exciting fighter to watch. How in the world someone does not like to watch him fight baffles everyone.
The part I disagreed with you is where you said Manny would KO Mayweather. Anything can happen in boxing but Mayweather is still very close to being at the top of his game. Unlike DHL Mayweather still posses to much skill in term of lateral movement, punches from all angles, great foot work and would be able to match Pacmans speed. Lets not forget he would also be the stronger fighter. You cant look at Mayweather’s fight with Augustus because that was early on in his career and he has matured as a fighter since then. Also in the First Castillo fight he lost a close decision and was given a gift. However in the second he made the necessary adjustment and clearly won. The great thing about Pacman is that he ducks no one where as mayweather has at times chosen to play it safe but that should not reflect negatively on Pacman. In the end my money would be on Mayweather to dominate Pacman because Mayweather is a much smarter fighter.
this one is for the idiot “losers” that wrote about mexicans and losers, you my friend are just being stupid , sure pacquiao has defeated mostly mexicans and that does not mean that mexicans hate him. By the way , next time you talk about mexicans’ make sure to wash your stinky mouth. stupid moron.

I think he’s the same PBF nutthugger
mayweather should not even be mentioned anymore. It is not a typing error, I didn’t begin typing his name with a capital letter on purpose. He didn’t fight Margarito, Williams, Cotto, Cintron, Berto… must I keep on mentioning names. Then, when he finally takes on a “big” super welter in DelaHoya, he didn’t dare come in at the 154 weight limit, most likely terrified that he wouldn’t be able to elude his foe as effectively. Then he takes on Hatton and tells everyone that he has nothing else to prove in boxing after beating the smaller Hatton. Is that what a supposed “pound for pound” fighter to do from now on? No, that’s what mayweather did and did best. Leave mayweather in retirement and if he really wants to earn the “pound for pound” status, let him take on the big boys (Margarito, Williams, etc…) just like Manny did this past week end and came out on top and even offered a better performance in the process.
Good night and God Bless

P4P kings doesn’t run like chickens!
No Matter HOW BIG, GREAT, SKILLED fighter MANNY is Against.. MANNY WILL STILL STAND UP TO BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THEM…
Tired of all the hate getting thrown at Mayweather, Don’t mistake your personal felling for the fighters ability’s.
1st: Cotto and Bob Arum had a chance to fight Floyd about two years ago or so, and they turned him down, said that Cotto wasn’t ready. When asked about fighting Floyd, Cotto didn’t say that he wanted to fight him and simply said I just fight and don’t pick my oppenents,(can respect that). But his team had an oppurtunity to take on floyd and didn’t want to fight him.(A lot of people don’t know this). Not saying Cotto isn’t a good fighter, because he is a great fighter, he just ran into a fighter who really can take a punch and just loss. I really think that he was out of shape too, but that’s just me. Also I looked at the Mosley fight and thought Cotto did indeed win the fight, but he didn’t just dominate the fight. With that said, Floyd didn’t duck Cotto, I don’t even know if an offer was even made. Plus Floyd said on ESPN that he would love to fight Cotto, but Cotto loss to Margarito.
2nd: Margario is the only one that I can truely say that Floyd didn’t fight when an offer was on the table. I think the only reason was(and i could be wrong) is because of Margarito’s drawing power, what we have to understand is that boxing is a business, and if I’m not mistaking Floyd turned down this fight and went and fought Gotti(MIS MATCH) and just put another notch on his belt, which I must admit, he should have fought Margarito. But lets look at Margarito with 5 losses, and one coming just a little while ago to Williams, he shouldn’t be considerd an average fighter, he is most definatly a great fighter but he did loss to Williams in a fight where he should have really won, and until he goes and makes that rematch with him, lets not talk much about him. By the way he will beat Mosley.
3rd
Cintron, ??????? seriously are we even going to go there, He isn’t ready for Floyd PERIOD
4TH
Williams I though was the biggest threat torwards Floyd until he put on a very dissapointing performance against Carlos Quintana and I realized that he isn’t polished enough to even fight Floyd. Floyd is to great of a boxer to loss to Williams.
5th
Berto, he gets hit to much to fight Floyd, plus if Floyd was to fight him and beat him, then all of the critics would be asking who has Berto fought besides Floyd to say he was ready for Floyd.
With all that said I think that Pac vs Floyd is a good fight and it could go either way. No matter who Floyd beats there will always be an up coming fighter who people will say” he has to fight him in order to be the greatest” they do this until a fighter losses so then they can say, ” he really wasn’t that good”
(not in any order)
Elite Fighter:
Floyd Mayweather
Manny Pacquiao
Great Fighter:
Margarito
Cotto
Good fighter:
Berto
Williams
Hatton
The pacman will beat floyd or hatton that’s for sure.
