Keep Dreamin’

Well it was a great trip to Las Vegas and other than forgetting my laptop everything went wonderfully. Unfortunately by leaving my lappy I was unable to answer all the mail I got in regard to my “Steep Mountain” article and my prediction of Pacquioa defeating Oscar. I also was not able to respond to those who wrote to me immediately after the bout. My Blog/Mail Pouch will answer those emails sent my way in chronological order from the day after the “Steep” article up to the letters I am now receiving in regard to the now historical fight.

Here we go:

Subject: A Steep Mountain To Come Down From

I just wanted to go on record and disagree with your analysis of the Oscar vs Pacman fight. First of all, I don’t even think this fight should be taking place because of the huge mismatch and that will be evident on Saturday. Second of all, lets remember that Pacman is not a defensive fighter nor has he ever been tested at that weight limit. He barely got past Marquez. Plus, there is a huge difference in size, reach, and power. I understand anything can happen in boxing but the odds are not in favor of Pacman. Oscar may get tired down the stretch but its easier to get tired when you have a bigger guy applying pressure but in this case he is the bigger guy. Pacman is no Mayweather he does not possess the defensive ability to beat Oscar where as Mayweather most definitely does. Pacman is just a give and take type of fighter (one dimensional). My prediction is Oscar wins by KO around the 6th or 7th round if not sooner. For the record I am not a Oscar fan I think he should be fighting real fighters like Margarito not blown up lightweights.

Sincerely,

Ronnie

 Dear Ronnie,

I appreciate you going on record with your thoughts. Something tells me you are not so glad you did now. But don’t worry Ronnie, you were note for note and word for word speaking the very ideas professed by all the high priced experts…did you come up with these thoughts on your own or were you mimicking those dolts?

Just curious.

Well, as Bob Arum said at the post fight, it was a mismatch, so on that point you were right…I guess. And of course the fight should never have taken place; Manny was leaps and bounds superior to Oscar on every level.  And yes, it was evident on every level Saturday night…good call Ronnie.
As to Manny’s defense Ronnie…how many combo’s did Oscar throw that landed on nothing but air? Yeah, I lost count too.

Marquez is an unfair comparison, he is pretty much in his prime, Oscar is not.

Okay I will stop picking on you word for word and just get to the meat of your text…Ronnie, you couldn’t have been more incorrect with your pre fight breakdown. But I think you listened to a bunch of experts and just regurgitated their already pre-chewed mush, it’s probably not even your fault, and you were led astray by the talking heads.

Manny is anything but one dimensional and if anyone can lay claim to being all Mayweather is and more…it’s Manny.

And as to fighting Margarito…c’mon, I know you are not an Oscar fan, but you don’t really want to give him the death sentence do you?

Ronnie, I really appreciate the fact that you took a stand and expressed your views, most of the spineless jellyfish I was with this weekend wouldn’t dare do that. Props to you my friend!

 Sea Level vs. High Altitude

Hey Bill you didn’t have to go to Dr Hopkins….Mac has been saying that for years.  Mac got into it with Emanuel Steward when Julio was going to fight RJJR over that same topic.

I have to stay with Oscar though.  Maybe it’s the Mexican in me, but I have to stick with Oscar.  And if loses, I’ll say “FTP” about Manny.

 Robert T

Hey Robert,

Yeah, Mack is foaming at the mouth about right now with all this training in Big Bear nonsense. Again, I give you props for sticking with Oscar, but now you see Mack may have very well had his point proven on Saturday night.

FTP time

“Mountain”

LOVE your ‘Mountain’ article, and I hope you’re right!!! If I had money to bet, it would be on Manny, and I have felt that way for a long time. We will know soon!   Barb

Yo Barb!!

LOVE?  Thanks. Trust me, I was hoping I was right too…otherwise our buddies would have drug my carcass through the mud. If you have felt this way for a long time then you have seen Oscar’s deteriorating skills too.
Jump to the head of the line.

And now to the post fight response:

Billy, What the heck was that???? Oscar never even fought back. After the first round he looked defeated as well as befuddled. 164 punches vs. 333 with a 64% landed by Manny.

What happened? Oscar, look like he just didn’t have any heart, no will to fight, heck no desire to fight. Was he confused? He didn’t look like it, he just looked defeated after the first round.

Ray Flores

Ray,

Oscar had one chance and one chance only, he had to land the big left hook. After the first 3 minutes he pretty much knew there was no way that was going to happen, but he didn’t give up…yet. Then in the ensuing rounds as Manny really began to make Oscar’s life miserable and that is when I believe as you do…Oscar all but gave up. Confused, defeated…all of the above.

Silence Is Golden

So the post fight emails were sparse at best, to the say the least, but that’s not really a shock…is it? I mean everyone picked Oscar to win…right?

My guess is everyone was keeping their thoughts to themselves.

Fair enough.

Silence is in fact…Golden!
