Little did I realize that planting poor old Ricky Hatton’s Melon on Tonya Harding’s body would open the eyes of our readers to another dilemma in the world of boxing that has become a daily event.
That dilemma is the slip shod and butt kissing journalism that permeates the boxing internet websites.
As I have stated before, that is why Bret and I left the website that will be mentioned later, but the horrific journalism doesn’t stop with The 800,000 Pound Gorilla. It’s my guess that well over 75% of the boxing websites act in exactly the same, bend over and grease me up manor that riled up our newest fan Dietrich.
Check it out:
The wonderfully poignant and funny fight report by Mr. William Trillo on Saturday’s bout from Manchester, GB : “Shades of Tonya Harding in Hatton’s Performance”, was a joy to read.
It was sorely needed, as the report of it in the other boxing news site was an affront to us fans in more ways than one.
To P4P and William Trillo, a big dankeschoen from this fan for publishing it.
I have taken the liberty and included as attachment my note to the author of the false and phony report by Craig Watt of Fightnews.com.
Sincerely
Dietrich Hartmann, fight fan.
And his letters to the other site:
Hello Craig:
Don’t you think calling Hatton’s fading fight verve “delight British fans” an embarrassing overstatement?
All the guy [Hatton] did was holding and grabbing. No power, no guile no convincing ring generalship and much boring dull action.
Lazcano. tagged and caused his opponent pain and hurt several times. Hatton not once had Lazcano in difficulty.
Hell, had it not been for that bent Limey referee, Juan would have KO’d him in the middle rounds.
Reading your report of the bout on VS yesterday forces upon me one question: did you
actually watch the fight? Or were you paid by the Hatton bunch to compose that crap you want to pawn off on us fans as a great and interesting competition?
Shame on Fightnews to employ hacks like you.
Sincerely,
Dietrich Hartmann, fight fan.
Sir: (Editor of Fightnews)
The published rubbish by your man Craig Watt on the Lazcano vs. Hatton bout is an affront to us boxing fans.
My comments to Mr. Watt are in the brief attachment.
I thought you may wish to know what fans think of that liar.
Sincerely,
Dietrich Hartmann
Darn Dietrich, I don’t even know where to begin.
How about a big thanks just for stepping up to the plate and saying what had to be said. And I don’t mean the heaps of praise you bestowed upon me, but rather the fact that you didn’t let that dribble that was written go by without comment. I am glad you let me know about it as well.
In defense of Watt, for all I know this guy may very well be the finest writer on the planet and his views on that Hatton fight may very well be similar to mine, don’t let the fact that his name is on that fight report fool you.
As I said, both Bret and I were there, we are familiar with the drill;
Cover the fights, give us the weights, records, time of stoppage or the judges scores. Don’t give us any editorial comments and heaven forbid you bash the fighters or the promoters in any way, even if it’s the truth. In other words, we are trying to sell ad space and we need 8 credentials for each fight and if you tell how things we really went down how will we pay for our new homes? And how can we cover a fight if we don’t have umteen hacks taking up space at every venue?
That’s the bottom line Dietrich, it’s as simple as that.
Obviously we are not like that and if a fighter, promoter, trainer or whoever it is needs a good rip job, we are going to rip. At the same time, if someone deserves praise he will get that as well.
You can slap all the exclamation points you want on the front page of that shill of a website, it doesn’t make the stories any more interesting and while kissing promoters asses may get you their advertising dollar, it doesn’t earn you one ounce of respect from them or anyone else in boxing, that is no big secret, everyone knows it.
So, I am glad you agree the Hatton fight was a farce Dietrich, most people I have talked to agree. And although I am not as glad to say it, because I really like Paulie as a person, he has been great to us in interviews; I just don’t see how they can sell a fight with him and Ricky, not right now anyway’s. They both need to put on a better show than that before they can talk about selling out MSG.
And just out of curiosity, it’s been a while now, have the Gorilla or his writer responded to your letter?
Hello Mr. Trillo,
No, there has been no word from either Watt or from the editor of fightnews.com.
I doubt rather there will be one.
Your report on the fight is marvelous. You did the sport of boxing a huge service.
I shared it with a number of hard core boxing fans. All loved it. Dietrich Hartmann.Dietrich, did you really think they would respond? All you have to do is check their fan mail page…?? What’s that? They don’t have one? Like I have been screaming loud and clear from the rooftops my friend, They don’t care about their readers and they never have, the proof is in the pudding.
And now this diddy from someone who is actually a writer for our site…I think he just ripped a pound of flesh out of yours truly…you be the judge.
I hope all is well. I had to comment on some of your recent postings, particularly the email responses. Please don’t take my comments negatively – I assume you enjoy challenges, and have fun responding. I wish more people challenged the stuff I wrote….
I agree that Lazcano isn’t what he once was, but I’d venture to say three years ago Ricky, on a relative scale, was that much better than Juan. In other words, I think Hatton has actually diminished in skill more than Juan has. The hispanic causin’ panic has mental blocks – in my estimation - whereas Hatton is simply losing his reflexes, and capacity to maintain the true effective pressure he once possessed. Lazcano, on the other hand, simply doesn’t (and never did) have the mental make-up to let his hands go against a swarming banger.
The 10th round was a disgrace, but only paralleled the other 33 minutes during which Ricky literally told the ref when he wanted clinches broken.
Finally, if Juan was paid in pounds, wouldn’t the current exchange rate be beneficial to his net earnings?
Take care,
- SeanDang Mayor Mc Cheese,
I didn’t know you were going to go all Dow Jones on me?? But it seems you have a better handle on the rate of exchange and how it works than I do, I won’t even dare retort .
What I will say is this.
Your work has been great so far and I appreciate your input. It’s a good thing you don’t write for The Gorilla because a letter like this would surely get you axed from further contributions. But as I said, you write some pretty good stuff, I dare not stifle you, in fact I am happy to post your latest work next….Keep it up Mc Cheese!
