Sturm vs. Lorenzo Heating Up |
|
Photo: G. Uebe - ARENA
WBA Super Champion Felix Sturm and Giovanni
Lorenzo were face to face for the first time at today’s press
conference for their middleweight title fight this Saturday
(Sept. 4) in Cologne, Germany.
"There’s no doubt about me winning the fight and becoming
champion of the world", said Lorenzo who showed up in a jersey
of local soccer team Borussia Mönchengladbach; Gladbach had won
a clash with local rivals Bayer Leverkusen with 6-3 on Sunday
afternoon. "The team of Gladbach inspired me. They were the
underdogs, they played in front of Leverkusen’s home crowd and
they scored a very convincing and impressing win. That’s exactly
what I will do next Saturday. Gladbach scored 6 goals – I will
score 6 knockdowns. When I heard that Sturm is from Leverkusen
like yesterday’s losers things were very clear to me: I will be
the new champion."

Kameda Awarded Split Decision After Wrong Scores Read A Draw;
Rematch With Jamoye Ordered |
|
On Saturday, August 28, WBC Youth bantamweight
champion Stephane Jamoye, from Belgium, fought Tomoki Kameda,
from Japan, in Mazatlan, Mexico.
The fight was very close and exciting. The announcement given by
the ring announcer was a draw.
The supervisor appointed for the fight found his human error
while making his report some time after the fight and held a
meeting with ring officials Stephen Blea and Curtis Trasher from
the U.S.A., where it was confirmed that the officials scorecards
showed Tomoki Kameda winning by split decision.
The WBC confirms Tomoki Kameda as the new Youth world
bantamweight champion.
I am hereby ordering a rematch between Tomoki Kameda and
Stephane Jamoye, as this fight was very close and the former
champion deserves to be given another opportunity just as he did
last Saturday night.

Super Six Walls Come Crumblin’ Down |
|
By William Trillo
When I got the email from Showtime that gave the
bad news about Mikkel Kessler being forced to pull out of the
Super Six tournament my kneejerk reaction was to hit the
keyboard and pound out an “I Told You So” blog. But as I got to
the end of the email the Showtime executive closed by saying if
there were any questions to feel free to contact him, I calmed
down. That invite to respond seemed sincere enough…so I did.
Well as I write this blog four full days have passed and I have
heard not zippo from anyone at Showtime. Not a quick note asking
me to please be patient, that more information would be coming
shortly, nor did I get a quick blast telling me to stick my
email were the sun does not shine…NOTHING!

Top American Heavyweight Chazz “The Gentleman”

Castillo only to come out for round seven and score a thrilling
knockout that headlined a great night a great night of boxing
that was promoted by Mike Brestle’s Spartan Fight Promotions at
the Trump Taj Mahal Grand Ballroom.
After a pretty even first round, Castillo began to land numerous
long left hands to the body and head and it looked like
Witherspoon was a bit befuddled.

Leyla & Yuri Foreman Celebrate Labor Day |
|
Labor Day came early for Leyla and Yuri Foreman
today with the birth of their first child. The Foreman’s baby
boy, who has not been named yet, arrived 4 a.m. ET at Methodist
Hospital in Brooklyn and weighed-in at six pounds, 12 ounces.
Even better, he arrived on Leyla’s birthday.
"I am a new Dad, which is such an amazing experience,” Foreman
told Top Rank public relations director Lee Samuels. “There is
nothing like this. I am in awe."
Foreman (28-1, 8 KOs), a former World Boxing Association super
welterweight champion and the first Israeli world champion
boxer, lost his title to Miguel Cotto last June when he suffered
a severe knee injury during the fight and was unable to
continue. After having successful reconstructive surgery,
Foreman spent the summer rehabilitating his knee and is hoping
to begin light running in approximately two weeks.

This time I am going to prove that I can become a champion
again. For sure, on September 11 in Germany it is going to be a
great fight. I don’t have much to say because I know that my

James "Tap Out" Toney, Stopped In One By Couture |
|
James Toney's debut into the MMA world at UFC 118
was over in just 3:19 of the very first round after 47 year old
Randy Couture prompted a tap out with a triangle choke hold.
Toney showed no knowledge of the sport once on the ground, as
Couture opened up a cut on the top of Toney's head with multiple
punches. Toney just laid there, defenseless, and unsure what to
do. Couture locked Toney's head and arm in a triangle choke to
which Toney could not get out of and was forced to tap out.
